Jones County Provides COVID-19 Vaccine Update
Jones County, IA- The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) is partnering with county public health departments to begin distributing and administrating the COVID-19 vaccine. Currently, COVID-19 vaccines are being offered to those in the Phase 1A populations, which includes health care personnel and long-term care residents.
As more vaccine becomes available, Iowa’s Infectious Disease Advisory Council (IDAC), will review guidance issued by the CDC’s advisory group the Advisory Council on Immunization Practices (ACIP) to further prioritize populations to receive the vaccine in Iowa. IDAC is currently reviewing ACIP recommendations for Phase 1B and 1C priority populations.
“Jones County Public Health is partnering with facilities in our county to administer vaccine to the Phase 1A population. Jones County Public Health will continue to provide updates for other groups as we receive additional allocations of vaccine. While right now, the vaccine is being made available to health care personnel and long-term care residents, it is anticipated by mid-2021, there should be enough vaccine for anyone who wishes to receive it,” said County Public Health Director Jenna Lovaas.
Jones County Public Health has created a COVID-19 vaccine interest form to assist with planning the upcoming rounds of vaccinations and to help notify people when vaccine is available. The form is available at: www.jonescountyiowa.gov/public_health. Those without internet capabilities may call (319) 462-6945 for assistance.
Until vaccine is widely available to all, it is critical Iowans continue to practice the mitigation measures that can slow the spread of COVID-19: wearing a mask or face covering, practice social distancing with those outside your household, clean your hands frequently with soap and water, and staying home when unwell.
